In today’s post, we give you 7 tips to improve your website for ranking and user experience and conversion. You can have the best-looking site in the world but if no one sees it, and it doesn’t convert visitors into buyers then it’s practically worthless (and we don’t want that!).

1. Mobile Friendly
People are searching on their smartphones so we need to make sure our sites are mobile optimized in design. If your site isn’t mobile friendly then your visitors will struggle to use it, which can end up having them leave your site and find your competitor’s mobile-friendly site instead. Google also loves mobile responsive sites so you will get a ranking boost by adopting this feature.
If your site isn’t mobile friendly then contact your web developer to make the changes as soon as possible. Alternatively, you can send us an email and we can assist.
2. Encourage Social Sharing
Big brands are marketing everywhere and you will find them on nearly every social media channel. This is not just limited to big companies, smaller businesses can benefit from this too.
To make this happen we suggest adding a social sharing option to your published content. Depending on how your site is built it can be as easy as installing a plugin (like SumoMe) if you’re using WordPress.
You should also list your other social media accounts somewhere on your site so people know they can connect with you on there. These are generally placed in the header (top section of the page), sidebar (on the left or right side of the screen depending on the layout) or in the footer (bottom of the page).
People sharing your content on social media gives Google the signal that it’s popular and relevant and will help increase your sites trust and ranking.
3. Content Marketing
Regularly publishing content is a great way to keep your website fresh and active. Google likes ranking sites to be relevant so by publishing content frequently you are letting Google know that you’re serious about your website and your business.
Even publishing one post per week will improve your sites ranking and if the content is useful and providing value to your audience then it is building trust in your brand and placing you as an authority on the topic. All great ways to increase conversion.
4. Quality Images
Nothing worse than a grainy picture!
You don’t need a $5,000 camera to produce a great picture to be used on your website. Today’s smartphones can produce great photos with the added bonus of placing location data into the image. If you’re doing local marketing this will help your sites ability to rank for its location.
Google also favors unique photos so using your own images is recommended.
We also recommend watermarking any of your own images you publish. This way you claim the image as your own and in the event, someone finds it in a Google search there is a chance they will search your site too!
5. Email Marketing
Having a list of subscribers is a powerful thing. It’s a passive way to sell to your audience. This can be automated when you use an autoresponder email campaign. On average, each person who opt’s in to your email list is worth $1 per month.
You can also send out surveys and questionnaires as a way to get feedback from your target market. This works really well with content marketing because you can email a link to your latest post and drive additional traffic to your site.
If you want to start building your email list you can place a form on your site for people to subscribe. Offering a free gift such as an Ebook / PDF is a great way to produce more sign ups to your newsletter.
6. Utilize Video
A video is a great way to capture the attention of your audience. We have to respect that, no matter how great your content is, some people won’t bother reading it so if we can cater to them through the video we can keep them engaged.
A YouTube video is a great option and is easy to embed into your web page. Google owns YouTube so by using this platform you’re letting Google know you like them, and in turn, the feeling will be mutual.
7. Optimize Content for Ranking
Knowing what keywords your audience are searching with will help you create content that targets that market. By having a Gmail account you can access Googles Keyword Planner and look for search terms related to your industry.
You can also look at suggested terms to find more ideas to write about. If you enter your main keyword into Google you will notice that it offers suggestions. These are relevant to your main keyword and are a perfect addition to your content.
You can also find relevant search terms at the bottom of the page after performing a search. Take note of these keywords in a spreadsheet and write an article that targets them.
